Breaking point and how my morning ritual saved me…

✨Creating a morning ritual has been a life saver for my mental health. Soon after my little girl was born, my mum was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer, my Dad was diagnosed with heart failure and my husband was working away almost non stop. I quickly became overwhelmed as I tried my best to care for my new baby, my 6 year old son, my father, my mother as well as supporting my husband through his exams.

✨I held it together for a surprisingly long time. I guess I was fire fighting and so the adrenaline kept pumping. But then the cracks appeared. I was depleted, tired and felt so low. I could feel myself slipping away and it was scary.

✨I had basically put everyone else’s oxygen mask on first and was scrabbling about trying to grab mine. Thankfully I found mine in the form of @adrienelouise 💛

✨I’d been practicing yoga for years but had struggled to find the motivation to regularly come to my mat during this difficult time. So I made a commitment to get up every day and follow a 30 day yoga journey with @adrienelouise. I got up at 5.45am each morning (it was tough to begin with) and practiced for 1 hour before my children got up. It did however transform my life. It saved me. The darkness began to lift and no longer was I overwhelmed by the thought of another day.

✨Almost 4 years later, I still get up one hour before the rest of the family to take a little time to check in with my mind and body, to breathe and stretch.

✨These precious moments after we wake up can literally transform the rest of the day and beyond. If you’re noticing that your mental or emotional state is feeling precarious, then my advice to you is this… dig deep to create a positive self care ritual in your life and ask for help if you need it. Don’t be afraid to ask or feel like you have to make it through on your own. Help is out there.💛💛
